Eczema can be a difficult condition to control let alone cure.
Whilst the exact causes of eczema are still uncertain, it is known that there are a large number of possible triggers including exposure to certain chemicals and allergens as well as a genetic predisposition to the disease.
In addition, stress has also been recognised to worsen the condition.
When trying to control your eczema it is important to try and determine what your particular triggers are.
This is not always an easy or straightforward task! However, there are a few simple rules you can follow regardless: -Habit.
Get into the habit of following the following tasks and before you know it your eczema should be under control! -Healthy diet.
A diet rich in nutrients from fresh fruit and vegetables combined with an adequate water intake helps to maintain a healthy body from the inside out.
-Endeavour to keep clear of irritants such as pollen, dust, and chemical products.
-Keep your body moisturised using products with natural ingredients as often as possible.
Dry skin is one of the most common symptoms of eczema, and therefore keeping the moisture within your skin is important.
Using a natural oil such as coconut oil which has anti bacterial and anti fungal properties that are absorbed by the skin helps to reduce the irritation caused by the eczema.
-Bathing in or making a compress of oatmeal and water helps to soften the skin with no harmful chemicals, followed with moisturising with, for example, primrose oil or calendula both of which have anti inflammatory properties.
-Be gentle when drying yourself after a bath or shower! It can be easy to break the skin through friction with the towel.
-Wear clothes made from natural fibres instead of synthetic fibres.
-Relax! Time to unwind and de-stress is important in everyday life and even more so if you suffer with eczema.
A relaxed body is more likely to be a healthy body.
Don't skimp on sleep either - again, a refreshed body is more able to cope with the rigors of today's world! -Don't scratch! This is definitely easier said than done at times, however, there is evidence to suggest that this perpetuates the disease! If the skin becomes too itchy, wash the area in a non perfumed, hypo allergenic soap and thoroughly re-moisturise the area.
-Try to limit climatic changes as this can irritate the skin.
