Benefits of Retrofit Insulation

Seeing the benefits of insulation, more and more people are nowadays opting for the process, to make their home energy efficient, sound proof and comfortable. Though it is advisable to install insulation during the construction of house, offices or buildings. However, one can easily integrate insulation to the existing buildings or structures by means of retrofit insulation. Retrofit insulation is done to the existing walls or structures, which either do not have insulation before or require additional insulation. Insulation resists the flow of heat, thereby reducing heat gain during summers and loss of heat during winters. This results in maintaining an optimum temperature at home and cutting down the use of electrical equipments for maintaining temperature. Hence, retrofit insulation leads to considerable decrease in utility bills and saving the energy costs. Insulation material also facilitates the user to have acoustical properties, which in turn offer sound insulation. Sound insulation helps in reducing the noise entering the home or offices as it creates an effective sound barrier against noise, thus making the place comfortable and quite to work or to relax. Several insulating materials are available in the market these days, from which you can select the material on the basis of your requirements and amount of insulation needed. Energy audit can help people in knowing the amount of insulation that is required for a particular place. In order to reap the benefits of insulation, one needs to consider the problems before integrating retrofit insulation. For Retrofit insulation, fiberglass, mineral wool and cellulose are some of the commonly used insulating material. Insulation is done in either of the two ways, through batt or through blown in type. Blown in insulation or fiberglass insulation is generally preferred over batt insulation. This is because it is affordable, effective and easy to install. In addition it also offers sound insulation and can be conveniently installed in places which are hard to reach, such as stove vents or chimneys. You can also opt for other measures along with retrofit insulation such as installation of energy efficient doors and New Windows, or weatherization. So if your house or office is not insulated, you need to worry about your energy bills. All you need is retrofit insulation, which would solve all your thermal and acoustic problems.
