Best Energy Saving Ideas for Every Climate

Saving energy equals saving money. Sometimes that is not easy to do when colder temperatures persist forcing us to turn the heat up. Nor does it help when warm and humid air sticks around and we need the air conditioner pumping out cooler air. Saving energy is not has hard as it may sound and in the end, may save money.

Home Energy Saving Tricks

  • Raise the thermostat to 78 to warm things up.

  • Lower it to 65 when not home and if you do not have indoor pets. Homes with indoor pets should not lower the temperature that much.

  • Reduce the water temperature on the water heater to 120 from 140 to save about $7.00 a month.

  • Clean or replace the AC filter regularly to help the AC run more efficiently and save money.

  • Wash in hot water and rinse in cold. Use the water level to match the load size.

  • Always clean the lint filter in the dryer after every load. This not only helps the dryer run better but can prevent a fire.

  • Run pool pumps for only 6 hours in the summer and 4 in the winter. They are the biggest energy hogs.

  • Home Appliance Check List
Kitchen appliances use more energy than any other room in the house. Check out how to reduce energy costs in it with this list:

  • Avoid using multiple refrigerators and freezers. They can cost up $100 more per month to run.

  • Open the doors only once to get everything you need.

  • When buying a new fridge top and bottom models save more energy than side-by-side units.

  • Dishwashers should be run when full. Use the water saving or energy saving button on them.

  • Stove and oven energy use is determined by how much you use it.

  • Plan your meals so that more items fit in the oven at the same time.

  • Lower the temperature on the stove when a pot reaches boiling.

  • Cook with a toaster oven and microwave as they use less energy.

  • Lighting: the longer the light is on the more efficient it should be.

  • Turn lights off when you leave a room or for the day.
