Newborn babies get hurt a lot when going to the doctors. They are constantly getting shots for things and check ups so they're in a lot of pain. Researches have decided that a lot of babies feel pain, but do not always show it. Others showed that eighty-percent of procedures underwent on babies in ICU (Intensive Care Unit) are done without any medications. Many children, or newborn babies, may develop behavioral problems as result of going under too much pain without a medicine to stop it.
Most full-term babies do not have to go through as many procedures as babies that are born earlier than there due date. Since they are full term they do not have much to worry about, but premature babies unfortunately have some things undeveloped, as well as, other struggles. There are ways to prevent any uncomfortable feelings such as baby Tylenol, and some home remedies. Here are a few:
* Although it may be against your will to give your child a pacifier, or bottle feed, it is proven to relieve tension and relax the baby. If you are up to nursing then nurse right after the procedure as well because it proven just as affective.
* Just like when the baby is first born, it's soothing and essential to have skin-to-skin contact with their mothers. It soothes and calms the child down almost instantly. Bare skin contact does help.
* Just like us, the baby is easily relaxed by a soothing warm bath. Following a light soak, rub the baby down with baby oil and massage the area of pain if able to. It relieves pain as well as relaxes the baby.
* Lidocaine is an over the counter numbing cream just like any other cream that is rubbed directly on the skin. It is easily purchasable at any pharmacy such as Wal-Mart, CVS, and so on. Usually it takes anywhere from an hour to an hour and a half to set in and prevent any more pain from rising.
* Other forms of Lidocaine can be injected into the skin before circumcision in a male new born. It is not offered so you must request it prior to the surgery. Just like a shot, it is inserted through a needle.
* Tylenol after the incident or procedure helps from any pain to develop. Doctors do not always recommend this medicine so ask before giving it.
