- Plants native to the area are more likely to thrive when grown outdoors. Native plants have adapted to survive in the local environment and can cope with pests, diseases and weather changes more easily.
- Non-native plants are likely to grow better outside if they come from a similar environment. For example, moving a plant from one temperate area to another gives the plant a chance to acclimate to relatively similar growing conditions without too much stress. Starting non-native plants inside and moving them outside helps reduce stress further.
- Moving tropical plants to a temperate area, or vice versa, requires that the plants be grown indoors for greater environmental control. Plants with specific temperature, light and moisture needs grown in an area that has a different environment will not survive if planted outside.
