1. The Biedenham Museum & Gardens, was the home of Biedenham, the first bottler of sodas.
   One will find many artifacts from Joseph's life, such as a delivery truck, signs, bottles and old vending machines.
   One will observe some of the unique Bibles, including a leaf from the famous Gutenberg Bible, in the museum next door.
   Also on display in the museum is a remarkable collection of Russian Icons.
   There is a lovely gift shop with all sorts of memorabilia.
   In addition, one can stroll through the lovely gardens.
   
2. A rare treasure, the Chennault Aviation & Military Museum of Louisiana, located in one of the last standing buildings on the old Selman Army Air Corps field.
   Over 15,000 navigators were trained here in WWII.
   General Clare Chennault, famous leader of the Flying Tigers of WWII, made his home in Monroe after the war.
   One will find many marvellous artifacts from Chennault's life and the old Air Corps days
3. The Downtown River Market is open on Saturdays, a fantastic selection of shops, food, and entertainment.
   One will find a fabulous array of local foods, artifacts and local artist crafts.
   One will find a fantastic way to spend a Saturday afternoon and evening.
   
4. The Masur Museum of Art is a lovely museum located in a 1920's Tudor building.
   The museum features ever changing art exhibits from local and international artists.
   The museum contains nearly 500 works of art and is constantly adding new works.
   
5. The Northeast Louisiana Children's Museum is a children's paradise.
   Exhibits include a replica of a Firehouse, complete with pole, a Health Hall where one can become a paramedic, Toddler town, a special place for children under 4.
   One of the highlights is the Kid's Café, where one can become a server, cashier or even the chef! The children will enjoy The Big Mouth where they can walk in and explore.
   A fabulous place for children to spend the day.
   

Contrary to what one may think, Monroe is not just a sleepy little college town, but is a city where one can shop, eat and enjoy some of the most impressive museums in the South.
Unfortunately one just cannot see everything in one short visit and there is so much more to see than can be included in this short article.
