What You Ever Wanted to Know About Photography Plants

WHAT YOU EVER WANTED TO KNOW ABOUT PHOTOGRAPHY PLANTS
The photography of plants can be really frustrating; you come across a beautiful specimen, worthy of admiration and show and catch with your camera. When you get home and download the image on your computer you realize that the beauty is gone, why?... This is one of the frustrations of the photographer, especially in the beginning. But do not worry, in this blog we work to save you head warm. In today's post I will tell you everything you need to know to get beautiful pictures.
What do you need?
Besides your camera... you obviously do not need the following? No accessories are essential, but it will help you get stunning photos.
Objectives: ideal for this type of photography would be a macro and / or telephoto. The TV will help you to isolate your copy of the background, leaving the latter totally blurry and stressing the plant. With the macro can capture all the minute details of the plant. The best thing you will see in the following examples. See how the background blurs the TV and watch the details captured by the macro in the second image.
Tripod: one of the main problems encountered with this type of photography is the jitter (or what is the same, the image blurring). To avoid this it is best to use a tripod (if you're considering buying one, you need to read this before). Ideally this case is one having an easy joint and which can be adjusted to a low level, the same level of the floor. A trick to very low or small plants can support your camera in a bag or rice stuffing bag or the like. (Check out this article, it will discover how to make a homemade tripod and other accessories). And if you shoot with the timer or a remote trigger, avoid any movement, however minimal, produced by pressing the button.
Flash: will be of great help when there is insufficient light or fill in shadows when the opposite occurs, the light is very intense.
Reflectors: used to fill the shadows. You can use the typical reflectors or with foil, inside a cardboard or a white tetrabrick.
By now you know how important light is in photography and, in this sense; you must also know that a very sunny and cloudless day is not exactly the best time to capture images of plants. Why? Because this type of light causes many shadows and highlights that make details of what you want to photograph is lost. Contrary to what you might imagine is much more appropriate a cloudy day when the light is much softer and is distributed much more evenly. If you want to know what I mean by hard light, soft light, here you Iago explain very clearly, and you can check it on the following pictures:
Other times they are not at all desirable are the days of wind, as it is one of the greatest enemies of this type of photography. Any movement caused by the air spoil your picture. If necessary, to fight it you can use a mat or cardboard to protect your plant from the wind. Or shoot in burst and then discard the ones you do not need.

And, believe it or not, rainy days can be a good opportunity. If you do not believe me, read this article to convince you.
The best times of day
In relation to what you commented in the previous point, it is important to know that in the middle of the day the resulting light is much harder, especially at noon. The best hours for photography in general, and in this particular are the first and last day. And if what you want is to find that golden hue which gives a magical point to pictures, enjoy the sunrise and sunset, which is known as the "golden hour". You get images like this.
Watch the background. You can put behind a cardboard plant color. You can also use the sky as a background, just change the perspective and shoot "ant view".
Choose the appropriate time depending on the result you expect to get.
Use a large aperture to blur the background or what is the same, a depth of field small.
Shoot with a low ISO to better capture the details and more sharply.
If your camera has the option locks the mirror up to that does not cause jitter.
Always carry a notebook and pen to take notes, names of plants, where you found...
If you cannot choose the time and you have to snap some plants with hard light, you can use fill flash, reflectors or photograph the plants you find in the shade.
Plan the frame. The good thing in these cases is that the plants, if not for the wind does not move (and in this case will not be far away. Which means you can take your time you want to study the framing because the scene will not change.
Shoot from various angles to get different results.
Practice shooting at different times of day to compare results.
Seize the morning dew or raindrops. If not possible, you can also take a spray bottle and spray the plant with it.
Shoot the light to capture the silhouette of your plant.
Use white or black backgrounds to get some pictures of poster.

Ten patience. Do not despair at the first opportunity. May initially be a little frustrating, but if you keep practicing and you got the dot feel a great satisfaction!
Where to find plants
If you want to find exotic specimens like these, you'll have to travel to New Zealand or Canada.
However, you may not have to travel that far. Is there a botanical garden in your city or country? In places like this you'll find a huge variety of plants without having to travel or look very closely by the unusual or showy copies field. You may also serve as a nursery, florist or a university faculty with subjects that have botanical gardens for study. This carnivorous plant was photographed in a Botanical Garden.

Care for the environment
In conclusion, I beg you to be respectful of the plants. They are "heritage" of planet Earth, are living beings that should care for and pamper. Retrials but not Danish, nor to them or to their environment.
I never tire of repeating that if you do not practice you do not learn. The words are gone with the wind, clear memory or lost in the virtual space, but practice is what solidifies the knowledge, what makes you learn. Find your camera and put into practice what you have read here.
