How to Replace a Door

Rather than hiring a professional to come in and do your dirty work, many people believe that tasks that can be done on your own should be done on your own.
This credo holds especially true when considering household chores.
Take, for example, the replacement of a door.
When a door becomes battered or broken, most homeowners will open up the yellow pages (or go to Google) and find a door repairman to alleviate the problem.
When breaking down the process, however, it is clear that replacing a door is a task that can be done by virtually anyone.
Doors are generally held to the frame by three hinges.
Begin my removing the pins in each door hinge, which will allow you to detach the door from the frame.
Next, take a screw driver and remove the hinges from the door and the frame.
If these hinges are in good condition, than they can be used when installing the new door.
Otherwise, be sure to buy new hinges that are the same size as the older ones.
After purchasing a new door, place it next to the old door in order to guarantee that they are both the same size.
If not, trim the new door so that it aligns perfectly with the older one.
The will ensure that the new door will fit snug in the frame.
Next, screw the new hinges into the frame and the new door, making sure that they are accurately placed in the same location as the older door hinges.
Once the new hinges are in place, position the door in the frame and reconnect the pins, starting at the top and working your way towards the bottom.
It's evident that reinstalling a door can be completed by anyone with the right tools and the right amount of patience.
However, you should never hesitate to contact a contractor if you are experiencing any problems or have questions regarding the proper safety precautions associated with replacing a door.
