How Far Would You Travel to Work? International Hospitality Management Work Programs

One good thing about hospitality management is that it can provide easy access to the international job scene.
You'll have the chance to travel and work virtually anywhere in the world, as long as there is a need for the job.
In hospitality - the remote reaches of paradise are actually a rich picking field for employment.
The industry's tilt towards globalization has been going on for many decades now and is very much evident with many working programs available for the enthusiastic employee.
In fact - "have bag, ready to travel" is a necessity! As long as you're interested in working internationally, there is really no barrier to enrollment in most programs.
However, between finding advertised courses and enrolling there are some important considerations to make - you need to think through certain points before you make a move to get into any particular kind of training.
A well thought through and considered first step could save you considerable time in the future.
It is important to know whether the program you are attracted to is truly in line with your personal career goals.
Here are some points to consider.
What Is It That You Want? First off you need to spend the time to establish your own career objectives or goals.
You should understand that there are many different career paths that you can take in this kind of industry.
Check the curriculum of the program you are getting into.
Is it in line with what you want to be doing some years from now? Best to point yourself in the right direction right from the beginning.
If your personal goal is to supervise a large hotel or have a senior management position in a well-known company, you will need to look for a program that offers a bachelor's degree, since this will be required for the kind of job that you want.
What Happens After The Program? You will want to estimate the reputation of the Institution you are considering.
Is it located in a tourist destination and does it have a strong relationship with major hotels? What resorts, hotels, and tourist attractions is your chosen program drawn from? Are graduates from that institution hired by the leading employers in the industry? Factors like these should be given some serious thought and may require some detective work on your behalf.
What Are Their Credentials? It is important to know the credentials of the faculty with whom you will be training in your program.
You will want to know their industry experience, so that you can be sure that what they teach you is not just a prescribed curriculum taught from a book but a curriculum embellished at all stages with extensive experience from the field.
You may feel that these points are not easy to verify - but a casual chat with some ex-students or even the faculty themselves should give a good indication of the competencies that will be available to you.
You will, most likely, encounter tutors in this field that have advanced degrees in education, business, or other disciplines aside from hospitality and tourism.
This is quite normal as one can't expect all lecturers to be unique graduates of the study itself.
In fact, it is considered a plus if the faculty has a mix of academic achievement along with management-level experience in business.
What About Accreditation? You should check out the accreditation of the program you are interested in.
Is it regionally accredited? By the term 'regional accreditation' one means being accepted by accrediting bodies which serve particular geographic regions of the country concerned (e.
g.
USA).
It is the responsibility of each accrediting body to serve the majority of private and public higher education institutes in their designated area.
This kind of accreditation is very important if you plan on acquiring appropriate higher education with the institution concerned - you don't want to have your hard work go unrecognised! We've discussed fairly serious academic accreditation to some degree here.
Don't forget or discount other types of accreditation though.
Experience and on the job training (or day release for example) can realistically be just as helpful in finding quality employment.
Many professional accreditations are given much credence by employers - especially if they are well regarded within their corresponding industry.
One easy way of finding out what these professional accreditations might be is to ask employers or recruitment agencies which professional accreditations they consider highly on the resume of candidates.
Why not ask what they require for the job you REALLY want? Remember - if you really want it, you will have the energy and discipline to get it - sometimes reaching high is the easier option! Good luck.
