Smoking is dangerous; this is something you might have heard a millions times. Smoking has many side effects such as many kinds of cancers; bet you have heard that too many times before. But the fact remains you haven't done much about it. Let us learn about the perils of smoking first and then move to answer an important question: how to quit smoking?

Smoking dangers

Lung cancer is caused by tar in tobacco smoke. Men who smoke are 10 times more likely to die from lung cancer than others who don't smoke. When you smoke, your heart rate increases because of the nicotine and carbon monoxide content in cigarette smoke. Smoking is known to cause heart attacks and other heart problems. It cuts down the supply of oxygen to your body and makes your brain work harder. Blood vessels are blocked in the heart by smoking and this leads to a heart attack. More than 30% adult males around the world smoke. More than 4,000 chemicals are present in cigarettes, out of which 23 are carcinogens. But, still people continue to smoke and ruin their lives along with people who stay with them.

Only 15% of the smoke from a cigarette is inhaled by a smoker and the rest is let out in the atmosphere. If you are really serious about your health and of the ones around you, consider quitting as your priority.

How to quit smoking? Champix is the answer

Varenicline, commercially sold as Champix, is an oral prescription drug used to help smokers quit smoking. It works by reducing the nicotine cravings by binding to the receptors in the brain that respond to use of nicotine and by reducing the withdrawal symptoms. It also lessens the pleasure received by the smokers when they smoke a cigarette.

You should take this medication only as prescribed. One pill per day should be taken from the 1st to the 4th day. Ensure that you take it at the same time everyday. From the 4th day, you should take it twice a day till the 7th day. You might increase the dosage after that but it is important to consult a doctor before doing so. Do not confuse Champix with nicotine replacement therapy (NRT). The former does not use nicotine to help you quit smoking. Champix is FDA approved and free from nicotine.

If you wish to quit smoking and are looking for a treatment option that does not contain nicotine, then Champix is the perfect choice for you. Other treatment options such as electronic cigarettes and nicotine gums are addictive.

This drug is non-nicotine and this adds to its safety. This medication works by acting on the nicotine receptors in the brain and stops nicotine from reaching them. This way the pleasurable feelings that you get from smoking are reduced. Along with using Champix, make a personal plan for quitting. Set a date and throw away all your cigarettes on that particular date. Most smokers quit many times before giving it up forever. Stay strong and dedicated. You will have to deal with a few withdrawal symptoms but keep your eyes on your goal. Once you quit, your life will be happier and healthier.
