- 1). Decide on the possible range of dates in August for your cruise. Use a calendar to aid you with accuracy. Write in a notebook the dates that are most desirable for your cruise as well as other options that will work as well...and any dates the are absolutely out.
- 2). Choose your destination. Keep in mind that where you cruise to will determine your departure city. For example, many cruises to Alaska depart from Seattle, Washington and Vancouver, British Columbia, while Caribbean cruises are going to depart from places like Miami and Tampa, Florida.
- 3). Research which cruise lines you would prefer to patronize. Go to the cruise line websites. Check the amenities each line offers, such as on-board activities, entertainment and dining options. You may want to ask people you know who have cruised what their experiences have been with different lines, and certainly use the power of the Internet to gain input from objective sources.
- 4). Write in your notebook, on separate pages, the name of each cruise line you want to consider. Make notes of what preferable amenities each offers.
- 5). Use each cruise line website search engine to find possible cruises. Enter the date and destination. Check the results. Write in the notebook those cruises that best match your available dates. Include the cost of each of these cruises.
- 6). Examine your notes. Consider the amenities, departure port and ports of call of each cruise line. Weigh the cost of the cabin against what you receive. Be sure to check and see if any specials are being offered, e.g., free cabin upgrades or two-for-ones. Factor in possible airfare to get to and from the departure city.
- 7). Choose your cruise. Book the cruise online or use the phone number provided on the cruise website.
