- 1). Look for the Employer Identification Number on your recent pay stub. If you have used information from the employer on your taxes in previous years, you also may look on previous W-2 forms or tax documents to locate the EIN.
- 2). Search the GuideStar or Noza database if the company you are inquiring about is a nonprofit organization. GuideStar and Noza will allow you to access the organization's 990 Form for free. The EIN will be listed on the 990 form.
- 3). Request the company's Dun & Bradstreet report (see the Resources section for a link). The Dun & Bradstreet report contains information about the company's credit history. Because the credit history is associated with the company's EIN number, it will appear on the report. You will have to pay a fee to obtain a basic Dun & Bradstreet report.
- 4). Visit a website such as EIN Finder, FEIN Search, KnowX and US Info Search. Sites such as these maintain a large database of EIN's. You will have to pay a fee in order to access the database. This fee will vary by site. Once you have paid, type the name of the employer into a search field. If the company's EIN is in the database, you will be able to view it. Generally, you will not receive a refund if you are unable to find the EIN for the company that you are inquiring about.
