A lot of people would kill to gain entry to the UK but why are there so many people giving up British citizenship? According to the UK immigration law, UK residents or British citizens who want to give up their nationality may do so.
The main reasons would be acquiring another citizenship from another country and the country they chose does not recognize dual citizenship like in India or the Middle East territories and other African countries.
Before you do this, reconsider that after all the hubbub of UK immigrations by the thousands who enter the UK, it is ironic that such action is even necessary.
But there are rules to follow.
Read on: Before giving up British citizenship you must read the following guidelines: Before UK residents give up their British citizenship, they are already a citizen of another country or there is prior arrangement.
The UK resident may at least be eighteen years old.
The UK resident must be free from mental illness or some sort of mental incapacity.
This is an important decision and the individual doing this must realize the consequences of his actions.
If the applicant does not posses mental capacity to make the decision, someone may make the application in his behalf but he must be of sound mind in order to make the decision.
That the decision shall serve the best interest of the applicant and realizes the gravity of such action.
The person who will apply for the renunciation must explain in writing why this application is necessary.
If the mother or father also wishes to give up the British citizenship of their children, they must also write a written explanation.
If this request is granted, the applicants will receive a declaration of renunciation.
According to the UK immigration law, the applicant must sign the RN 1 form for the renunciation.
This is for the dual citizenship type of form.
There is another type of form for other forms of renunciation.
The dual citizenship must be listed down as well.
Now the form has two separate parts; the first part will be submitted and the other part will be signed and sealed for the applicant, serving as a declaration of renunciation.
The first form must be filled out and counter signed by someone who is above eighteen years old and with a significant relationship to the applicant explaining why he is giving up British citizenship with the assurance that the applicant is of sound mind and understands what he is applying for.
The applicant will also prove that he is indeed a British citizen and must show the status confirming that he has arrangements to have another citizenship with another country.
Under the UK immigration law for marriage category, the applicants must show proof that they are renouncing their British citizenship due to their marital status.
All application and documents must be sent to the Home Office and in the case of immigrants, they must send all the documents to the UK Border Agency.
A standard fee of three hundred and ninety five pounds should be paid in full to the respective offices.
Remember that all these efforts will be in vain if you apply to give up British citizenship without prior arrangements with another country's citizenship.
