- 1). List what features you need and want in a home. For example, choose the amount of bedrooms and bathrooms you will need. If you have pets, you will need a property that allows pets and has a yard. Features that you would like to have in your home, but are not explicitly required, include a garage or extra storage.
- 2). Meet with a real estate agent. Either choose one from real estate agent listings or meet with the one managing the property in which you are interested. An agent will help you find potential properties that have all the features you require at a payment you can afford.
- 3). Make a list of all the homes that fit your requirements and choose the best one for you and your family. Make sure the home has all the space and features you need, and that you can afford the payments.
- 4). Apply for rent to own financing. Your real estate agent can help you with this process. You will need to complete an application and provide proof of income. Most rent to own financing is done through the property owner.
- 5). Hire a licensed home inspector to go over the home. This guarantees you will not purchase a property that needs serious repairs, making it unsafe or more expensive than you can afford. Do this before you sign any contracts so you can back out, if extensive repairs are needed.
- 6). Purchase any furniture or appliances you need before you move in so the items are there when you are officially in the home.
