How to Repair a Wall From a Broken Towel Rod

    • 1). Lay a plastic drop cloth on the floor to catch wall debris that will fall in the process of the repair.

    • 2). Cut loose plaster or drywall from around the damaged area using a utility knife. Use a gentle scraping motion with the knife to remove loose pieces until the edges around the damaged area consist of solid wall.

    • 3). Fill the depressions and holes with joint compound spread with a 6-inch drywall knife. Smooth the joint compound with the knife until it fills the holes to the same level as the rest of the wall. Let the joint compound dry for 24 hours.

    • 4). Sand the repaired area with a drywall sanding sponge to remove ridges and high spots. Apply another coat of joint compound if the repaired area is still not even with the rest of the wall. Let the joint compound dry and sand smooth.

    • 5). Paint the repaired area with touch-up paint that matches the rest of the wall. Use a 2-inch paintbrush and blend the paint into the rest of the wall around the repaired area.
