Magic: The Gathering – The Battle Of Wizards

Magic: The Gathering, is also known as MTG or Magic. It was created and designed by a Professor and is among the first ever collectible trading card games. As of last year, the game had around twelve million players and counting – a substantial following for anything. This game represents a war between planeswalkers or wizards. It can be played by two or more players, with the help of a deck of cards that are printed, or virtual cards online. The wizards use their magic spells, various items, and wonderful creatures depicted on the cards, to defeat their opponents. It has no similarity to the other card and adventure games, as this is a game with more cards and complex rules.

These cards are collectible and are valuable. There is also an organized tournament system for a group of professional players. The professor was working in the University of Pennsylvania, where he designed and refined the game with the help of some gaming volunteers. Magic: The Gathering was officially released in 1993. Many revisions and expansions have been done to the game since then, though the spirit of the game remained the same. The online updated version of the game was officially released in 2008.

The game was an instant success and the creators were hesitant to advertise as they could not keep up with the demands. This game is mostly played by the boys however, it does have female following. This is quite an addictive game; some people don't hesitate to spend a lot of money to acquire these collectible cards. According to an article in the USA Today, 2004, players' social and mental skills can be improved because of this game. It also said that this game teaches the children to win or lose with grace. This also teaches strategy skills, and vocabulary that the children are otherwise not exposed to. This game also won many awards for gaming concepts.

The game is played by two or more players. One can start the game with twenty life points, and if the points are reduced to zero or below, you lose. A player loses even if they are dealt with the damage card, with spells, or by the other cards that make them lose a life directly. Some cards could show you specific ways of winning or losing. If you draw from an empty deck of cards too, you lose. Basically, there are two types of cards, spells and lands. Lands give magical energy which can be used by the player as magical fuel. The tournaments of Magic: The Gatherer, happen in a lot of gaming stores or other independent venues. A lot of websites give information about the tournaments, give the total lists of popular decks, and debates based on the game. Constructed and Limited are the two major categories the game is played in.
