- 1). Click the "Start" menu on your Microsoft Windows operating system desktop.
- 2). Type "notepad c:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc\hosts" into the "Start Search" menu and your computer will open its "hosts" file.
- 3). Scroll down to the bottom of the page that opens. Locate the "127.0.0.1 localhost" file. Do nothing to this line. This file must remain intact for your computer to work properly.
- 4). Locate other entries near the "127.0.0.1 localhost" file that follow the same format, but are slightly different. For example, find entries that say "145.6.7.4 searching.com" or "123.5.2.1 findingit.com."
- 5). Scroll over these entries to select them, then press "Delete" to remove them. Press "Ctrl" and "S" to save your document.
