- 1). Mow the lawn to the desired height. A good height to mow to is about three inches.
- 2). Put on work gloves and goggles to protect yourself from flying debris while using a weed wacker. It may also be helpful to wear a long-sleeved shirt and long pants to help protect your arms and legs from debris.
- 3). Trim the lawn around the edge of the property. Trim down to the level of the mowed lawn. Be careful around chain-link fences because pieces of the weed wacker line can fly off and cause injury. When trimming around wooden fences, try to avoid weed wacking in one spot for too long. The weed wacker can damage wooden fences.
- 4). Trim around the trees and any lawn ornaments or furniture. It may be easier to quickly move the lawn furniture and trim the grass around it. That way you will save the furniture from potential damage done by the weed wacker.
- 5). Trim around the house foundation and around the deck or patio foundation.
- 6). Turn the weed wacker on its side and trim the edges of the sidewalks and driveway. By trimming the edging around the sidewalks you can create sharp lines of distinction on your property between the grass and sidewalks. You also can help prevent the lawn from slowly growing over the sidewalks.
