- Allentown reported a mean hourly rate of $18.46, the Harrisburg-Carlisle area had an average $17.95 per hour and Philadelphia auto mechanics made $19.32 an hour. Going against the norm, Pittsburgh mechanics averaged the lowest wage at $16.54 per hour, 4.2 percent lower than Pennsylvania's state average.
