- 1). Clean the wall where the brick veneer will be installed. Make sure that all loose plaster, paint and scale are off of the wall.
- 2). Apply a layer of scratch coating and level any uneven surfaces of the wall. Allow the scratch coating to dry before applying mortar.
- 3). Prepare the adhesive mortar according to the manufacturer directions. Mix the mortar in the mortar mix bucket.
- 4). Apply the mortar to the wall using the flat side of a trowel until the mortar is about 10mm thick. Groove the mortar with the notched side of the trowel and place the excess mortar back in the mortar bucket.
- 5). Press the veneer into place using even pressure until the mortar oozes out around the sides of the veneer. Wriggle the brick veneer slightly while pressing it into place so that a firm bond is created between the veneer and the mortar.
- 6). Wet a small 8mm brush with water and smooth the mortar in the gaps in between the pieces of brick veneer while the mortar is still wet. Take care to keep the brush wet while smoothing the mortar.
- 7). Press the grout between the pieces of veneer with a grouting tool. Use a round tool to slightly indent the grout when it dries to the consistency of clay.
- 8). Use a damp sponge to wipe away any extra mortar or grout on the top of the bricks. Be sure to clean away excess mortar before it has been able to completely set.
