I want to start this article by asking do you think that there is a need for black skin care products?
Why do I ask that?
Well quite simply because there is lots of information about the various types of products that black men and women should use. Many believe that black skin needs a different skin regime to white women and men.
One study that was completed after the 1970's states that skin colour is mainly due to vitamins.
OK I want to answer that question for you here and you will be able to see that all skin whether white, black, yellow etc. is made up of mainly the same components and that it is the manufacturers who have designed a need that doesn't exist simply for monetary gain.
Firstly let's look at just some of the myths about black skin!
* It has more melanocytes
* It doesn't get damaged from the sun
* It has more oil glands
* It doesn't need any additional moisturizing
Black skin and white skin have the same number of melanocytes. The only difference is that in black skin melanocytes are much more active and produce larger pigmentation granules.
Melanin is the body's natural defence against the UV rays of the sun - but that does not mean that even with a greater level of internal protection that black skin will not damage from over exposure to the sun.
Concerning the number of sebaceous glands the truth of the matter is all human skin types have an equal number of oil glands and therefore black skin requires as much care and attention ie: hydrating and moisturizing as any other skin type or colour.
Although it may be less obvious, black skin like white skin does suffer from fine lines and wrinkles. This is due to the breakdown of collagen and elastin protein cells in the skin.
This problem can be rectified by encouraging the body to produce more collagen and elastin cells and one of the easiest, safest and most effective ways of doing that is to use an ingredient known as functional keratin.
Once functional keratin is absorbed into the blood stream it encourages the production of greater numbers of collagen cells. These are the structural cells along with elastin that make our skin look young.
In conclusion it is safe to say that all skin types require exactly the same type of skin care. The reason behind the massive growth in black skin care products is purely and simply, as mentioned earlier, a commercial one.
By using products that contain cell rejuvenation technology like functional keratin - everybody's skin will benefit as it prevents premature aging.
We have discovered that there is not a need for specific black skin care products; as all skincare needs to contain high levels of bio active ingredients especially functional keratin.
