Tips and Suggestions on Choosing Ceiling Mounted Lighting

Ceiling mounted lighting is probably one of the hardest decisions you will make whether you're giving one of your rooms a makeover or you're in the process of building a new home.
Whether you are buying in-store or online, it is exceptionally difficult to decide which solution will work best in your room, working in harmony with your house style and furniture choice.
There are four very important factors which have taken into consideration when choosing ceiling mounted lighting to make sure that it complements the space and offers you enough light after the sun sets each day.
The first consideration is the height of the ceilings where you intend mounting your lighting.
The type of light solution you choose is based on how high your ceilings is.
As a rule of thumb, ceilings that are higher than eight foot should have a hanging light, something that can become a centre piece in the room while offering ample illumination when you need it most.
You will find choosing a flush ceiling mounted lighting source on a ceiling of this height, won't offer you the light you need to brighten the space.
Ceilings below eight foot should consider a light that is closer to the ceiling, such as flush mounts.
These don't hang, so you don't stand the risk of a friend bashing their head on the light when walking past, it also doesn't catch your eye when sitting relaxing in front of the television and even though it's fitted directly to the ceiling and doesn't hang, it can offer more than enough light when you turn it on.
The next reason you need to take into consideration is the style of the light that you want to buy.
You need to decide this before you start making your way through the thousands of options available.
This decision is based on the style of your home and the furnishings you have.
Do you have a modern home? Maybe a traditional one or you may have gone for an art deco look? What about contemporary designs? The good news is that there are thousands to choose from, so as long as you stick to your overall design and take your ceiling height into consideration, you are already on the road to finding the perfect ceiling mounted lighting to blend in with your room.
When choosing the best finish for your ceiling mounted lighting, it's always a good idea to look at the other fixtures and fittings in the room.
You can use your light switches, electric plug surrounds and even door handles to help you choose the best finish for your new lighting solution.
These finishes are vast and you can choose from anything from stainless steel to plastic, so make sure that they match your current fixtures, ensuring everything ties in together to leave you with a room that works in harmony and creates a space you are proud of.
One of the hardest things you are probably finding is choosing the right size ceiling mounted lighting.
Of course they come in a wide choice of sizes, but buying too big for a small space or too small for a larger space, won't only make your light look out-of-place, but will impact the illumination you do.
The amount of illumination you want to do is down to personal preference, you may want a gentle glow, using floor and table lamps to brighten the space when you want a lot of illumination.
You may prefer relying on your ceiling mounted lighting as your main light source, using lamps to soften the room by turning off the main light when you want a softer tone.
