The first human case of H7N9 bird flu in North America has been confirmed in a Canadian woman who recently returned from a trip to China, health officials said Monday.
The 50- year old woman started to feel sick for two days after she returned home in Canada's westernmost British Columbia province from a trip to China and she had seen a doctor already. For now, tests have confirmed that she was infected by the H7N9 virus. It's the first human case of H7N9 in North America, according to the Health Minister Rona Ambrose
Public health officials said the patient is isolated and recovering at her home. Besides, all the people that had close contacts with her, including her families and friends have been identified and their health is being monitored by public health authorities, according to a statement.
Since the outbreak of this virus in March 2013, China has recorded that 281 people died and 470 are infected in total, and it seems that the virus accelerated last year. A lot of people fear that the virus will mutate and make itself transmitted between people easily. But Chinese officials and the World Health Organization have said there is no evidence of sustained human-to-human transmission, despite occasional instances of apparent infection between family members.
It appears that H7N9 is very terrible, but not all the infected people lost their at last, and there are some of them recovered from it, besides, we can take some measures to prevent it in our daily life. We should avoid unnecessary contact with birds as possible as we can, especially sick and dead birds. Remember to keep away from the excrement and if we touch birds or their excrement, we need to wash our hands completely with clean water or disinfector.
If we are preparing to have chicken or goose for our meal, we'd better buy it in the market with license and choose chicken or goose that received quarantine. When cooking, we must put it in boiling water and stew for about 30 minutes.
At the same time, we should keep a healthy lifestyle. Do exercises regularly if we have time and energy. Pay more attention to personal hygiene. Besides, we need to open the windows in our room to ventilate. There's no need to be scared at all as it is not that terrible. just keep these tiny things in mind and do as the experts, I'm sure that it's not that easy to be infected by the virus.
