We have just returned from an Hawaiian Cruise with Pride Of America. I will start with a positive note. The embarkation and debarkation was the smoothest and most organized that we have encountered, we have been on 5 cruises. The shore excersions and the people involved were magnificent.
The Spa Staff and Medical Staff were outstanding. The Islands are beautiful with wonderful history. This is where my positive comments sadly come to an end.
We were with a party of 10, four of us left from Sacramento and were put on a plane that we had to change in Los Angeles, the flight was delayed, what a waste of vacation time, the rest of our group were on a direct flight from San Francisco and arrived hours before we did.
Once on the ship, the restaurants would not accommodate our party until the last two days when we complained to the person in charge of the restaurants. When we called for reservations we were told "We are booked" we noticed that the restaurants were 1/2 to 1/3 empty, this led to the conclusion that there was a crew shortage. On average we were 2-1/2 to 3 hours at dinner, the food was cold and we missed most of the entertainment because of it, but this was no great loss anyway!! At the buffet nothing except the beverages were clearly marked. Normally at any buffet, you would like to know if it is chicken noodle or vegetable soup or what kind of fish you are eating, etc.
We were treated rudely by some of the crew, not all, but enough to leave an impression. The only kind of coffee packets we could get in our cabin was decaf until we complained several times. We were told by our cabin Steward "I don't have any" yet our friends near us on the same deck got all of the regular coffee they wanted. We found remnants of the last guests in our cabin -- used dental floss and used disposable razors.
We would never cruise "FreeStyle" again. If this had been our first cruise we might not have noticed these things, but we are used to so much better. We sent our laundry our and they lost 3 of my husband's shirts, it took several phone calls and 3 days to get them back. Most everybody that we talked to had the same issues with NCL, I know that we are not alone. We didn't like being told what to wear while we are on vacation, we understand no tank tops or shorts, but no jeans in the tropics is unreasonable.
Those "Service Charges" are a joke and should be returned, there was very little service.
