- 1). Lay two intersecting lines across the middle of the floor, using your chalk snapline. Spread tile adhesive over a few square feet of the intersection (you should still be able to see the lines through the adhesive).
- 2). Press your first tile into place, bordered by the two lines at the intersection. Stand two spacers directly next to it at one side, with each spacer an inch or two from either end of the tile.
- 3). Set a second tile next to the first, pressing the edge of the second tile against the spacers. Repeat the process for each of the other tiles, putting two spacers on each side of each tile before laying the next one. Make sure the tiles are snug against the spacers.
- 4). Tile the whole floor, building from the center out toward the walls. Let the tiles set overnight.
- 5). Remove the spacers using your needle-nose pliers to grab them fully within the lines and pulling straight up. Have a cup handy to hold the removed spacers so they don't scatter on the floor and fall back into the spaces. After all the spacers are removed, the floor is ready for grouting.
