This new phone will rank as one of the year's biggest handset launches, and it heralds the release of an operating system that will shape the course of 2012 as well. Samsung Galaxy Nexus Is a very good choice for people who love big screens.
The main selling point of this new smartphone is definitely its screen: at full 1280 x 720 HD resolution, and 4.65 inches, it's among the upper tier of handset screens accessible. The screen uses a PenTile Matrix arrangement, meaning that it has fewer sub-pixels than a regular LCD. In theory, this makes it less crisp, but in practice it's already pushing the limits of what's visible to the human eye. Quality of picture is extremely clear and sharp. Studies have shown that humans can't see a visible distinction in quality or crispness beyond about 300 dots per inch; the Galaxy Nexus' screen is 315 DPI. That's comparable density to the iPhone 4, but with much more square area to it, as well as much better contrast.
Like the GSM Galaxy Nexus, the phone is a big sucker, thanks to that 4.65-inch display. It's a tall phone at 5.33 inches. It's a wide smartphone at 2.67 inches. But it's still relatively thin at 0.37 inches. It's one of the thinnest smartphone on the market now. Yeah, it's a hair thicker than its GSM counterpart -- all of two-tenths of an inch thicker. Or if you're into the metric thing, it's all of 0.53 mm thicker. Inside Galaxy Nexus you'll find a dual-core TI OMAP 4460 CPU clocked to 1.2GHz, 1GB of RAM, 32GB or 16GB of storage, and the usual assortment of radios (GPS, Wi-Fi 802.11b/g/n, and Bluetooth 3.0). Performance of this handset will allow you to launch all new applications and games.
Galaxy Nexus is also equipped with an NFC chip, as well as a gyroscope, sensor, accelerometer, proximity, barometer, ambient and light sensor. The 5-megapixel camera on the back is the same exact one Nexus has already trotted out twice. You can certainly coax pleasant-looking photos out of it with sufficient light, but we wouldn't recommend printing them out and hanging them in a gallery. The quality of pictures is very good, but they don't look the same when already printed. When your surroundings get dim, expect plenty of noise in your pics.
On the plus side, you still get continuous autofocus while shooting 1080p video and the zero shutter lag is every bit as impressive as it was on day one. The smartphone was a brave foray into the handset world with a new OS that delivered in a lot of ways. It still can surprise even fans of Apple's iPlhone, by all benefits that Samsung Galaxy Nexus has. Even now, a year on, lots of smartphones still aren't running ICS, while this handset storms ahead with Android 4.1: Jelly Bean, keeping it as relevant as ever. But Google and Samsung have spent so much time on the applications and the look, that in some places, they've taken an eye off attention to detail - mostly on the hardware.
