- Ystad is located at the southern end of Sweden, 400 miles south of Stockholm and 35 miles east of Malmo. Regular ferries depart from Ystad to Poland and the Danish island of Bornholm. The city is home to two medieval churches, the Church of St. Peter and the Church of the Virgin Mary, and features a number of preserved historic houses and cobblestone streets. Ystad is also just a short drive to the collection of standing stones, Ale's Stones, which date from around 600 C.E., and is perhaps best known as the home of fictional detective Kurt Wallander, the main character in the detective novels of Swedish author Henning Mankel. Visitors to Ystad will find a choice of comfortable accommodations in town.
