How to Troubleshoot an F3 Code on a Kenmore Oven Model # 30168

    • 1). Turn off the Kenmore oven and allow it to cool.

    • 2). Clean the oven door latch if the self-cleaning feature was recently used and the oven was locked during this process. The F3 error code may involve a malfunctioning latch that you can resolve by making sure the latch moves freely.

    • 3). Remove the temperature probe, if connected, once the oven has cooled if the oven door latch does not seem to be causing the problem. The temperature probe connection is located on the side of the oven near the rear. Pull the probe straight out to disconnect. Wait several minutes and then reconnect the temperature probe by plugging it back into the receptacle.

    • 4). Disconnect power to the oven if the F3 error code appears after the temperature probe is reset or if the temperature probe was not initially connected. Wait 30 seconds and restore power.

    • 5). Shut off the circuit breaker and the gas supply and wait for the oven to cool if the error code persists. Use a volt or ohm meter to check the resistance of the oven temperature sensor, which is located in the upper left corner of the rear oven wall. To remove, unscrew the two screws holding it in place and pull the connector and wire through the back of the oven. Turn the ohm meter on and touch the two ohm probes together. Turn the "Adjust" knob until the reading is at "0." Then set one of the ohm probes on one side of the temperature probe and the other ohm probe on the other side. Read the resistance measurement reading on the display. If the measurement is more than 100 ohms off of 1100 ohms at room temperature, the probe requires replacing.

    • 6). Contact Kenmore for assistance (see Resources) if the preceding steps do not remove the error code.
