Many surveys show that traveling is popular among all social groups in Poland. Even those who are less well-off, can afford to go on a package tour nowadays and prefer it to any other way of spending holidays.
There is no denying that package holidays have a number of advantages. First of all, you pay in advance and the price includes accommodation, full board and some guided sight-seeing tours. So you don't have to worry about bookings. You may choose between a room with bath in a luxury hotel or in a cheaper second class hotel, and the price will depend upon your choice. Secondly, you may take the brochures at a travel agency long before your trip and talk it over with members of your family and decide on the best possible route and the travel agency will hold the reservation for you. In the guide books supplied by the travel agency you can find a lot of useful information about the climate so you can take the right clothes. What is more, a travel agency can sometimes help you obtain visa if you travel abroad, although it may cost a little bit more.
Although during package holidays you may feel more comfortable and safer, they are not as cheap as holidays organized on your own. This is one of the reasons why young people usually prefer hitch-hiking or driving in a bus from place to place, carrying only a rucksack with a tent, air mattresses and a few clothes. Another problem is the way you travel - once you sign the agreement with the travel agency, they choose it for you and you may not always like it. Furthermore, you run the risk of getting into trouble if the travel agency is not a reliable one and refuses to refund your money in case of some complaints on your part.
On the whole, it seems that package holidays have as many disadvantages as positive aspects. The decision of whether to travel on your own or go on a package holidays remains a matter of personal choice.
