Building A Wooden Storage Shed

So you've decided you want to build a wooden storage shed.
Wooden storage sheds are an essential thing to have for any house.
It stops you having to bring dirty and muddy items into your house which can easily get walked into the carpets.
So the solution is to get a storage shed.
Wooden storage sheds are easy to make and well within the skill set of a good DIYer.
Building your own gives you plenty of advantages like being able to dictate where the shelves are going to be as well as ensuring that the wooden storage shed is robustly built.
Not like some of them paper thin sheds that are sold as sheds these days.
They're so thin and flimsy that a decent breeze will knock them over.
By building your own you can ensure that it is solidly built and will last for years.
So where to start, well at the beginning and the beginning of everything should begin with a detailed plan.
Don't just rush into the project because you'll come unstuck sooner or later.
Sit down and draw up a detailed plan.
Take your time, the more quality time given to the planning stage the smoother the whole project will go.
A well planned project like building a wooden storage shed will save you time and money in the long run.
Once you have the plan all worked out the next thing you need to do is source the materials.
It's always best to do this before beginning the project because it gives you time to shop around for the best quality and cheapest parts.
This will ensure you stay within budget.
There's nothing worse than getting into a project and finding you need something, you are tempted to pay over the odds because you need a part now.
A good plan will prevent this from happening.
Once it's all ready to go the next thing is to build your storage shed on level and dry ground.
Don't situate it on a part of the ground that tends too gather water in bad weather, this will soon rot the bottom of your garden shed.
Make sure you do not put the shed over cables and wires.
If you do expect the electricity company to come along and do some maintenance and demand you remove your shed to allow them access.
Don't forget to check that you can build a storage shed, there may be planning laws preventing you from building one.
Checking the local by laws and regulations should occur during the planning stage.
If everything is OK it's time to start building.
If you have planned the project right everything you need will be at hand, all the wood and nails and the tools you require.
Building begins from the bottom up and that starts with the foundations.
Get the foundation right and you won't need to start worrying every time there is a strong gust of wind.
If you are laying a concrete foundation then prepare this first and allow it to dry before proceeding.
Putting the storage shed together is a pretty simple process.
Make sure the support posts on which the whole build will rest on is solid and placed solidly into the ground.
Drive your posts firmly into the ground to ensure the shed is stable.
Once the frame is solidly constructed then placing the walls on can begin.
Use plenty of nails, a good nail gun will come in handy here; the idea of building your own shed is so you can build a strong robust shed as opposed to the flimsy paper thin ones sold by the DIY stores.
Use plenty of wooden posts to secure your shed and make sure it will be able to stand up to any weather.
The roof of your shed should be able to cope with the strongest weather, also don't forget to put some draining on the shed.
Some plastic gutters along the side of the roof to catch the water and take it away safely before it can get onto your shed.
A few plastic gutters cost little and are easy to put on; this simple measure will extend the life of your shed.
A water soaked wooden side soon begins to rot.
It's a wonderful feeling when you complete your storage shed project.
Building your own may not save you a lot of money but at least you know you have used good materials and that your shed is robustly built and will stand up to the weather.
Remember the importance of planning though, get this right and the build will be easy.
