Affiliate Marketing, or internet marketing as it is often called, is really a simple game.
It boils down to the same concept as the offline forms of marketing that have existed for years.
That concept revolves around one central position; Traffic.
Affiliate Marketing, in it's essence, is all about traffic.
If you can get tons of targeted traffic to your website, odds say that you are going to end up making sales.
So the real key to being a successful internet marketer, is understanding the basic methods of traffic generation that your competition are using, and doing them better and more aggresively.
There are 3 main ways that most internet marketers go about producing traffic to their sites.
Each one of these methods is "white hat", meaning that it does not break any search engine rules, and will not get you banned from Google.
The majority of these methods are geared towards ranking in Google, because let's face it, Google is going to send you 90% of your traffic if you can rank well.
The best way to rank well in Google, is to get a large number of backlinks, or links pointing to your website, from relevant and authority sites all over the web.
These 3 methods will all help you build backlinks, as well as throw in a bit of additional traffic in the meantime while your waiting to get ranked.
Let's break down each of the methods and discuss why they are so effective.
Method #1 - Article Marketing If you are reading this article, then you can already see the power of article marketing.
By writing a relevant article and posting it to the most popular directories, you can get exposure for your website.
These directories allow you to post a resource block in which you can link back to your blog, company site, or product page (no affiliate links however).
If people like your articles they can either follow the link to your website, or, if they are a fellow marketer, they can even post your article to THEIR website (links in tact), creating more exposure and also backlinks to your website.
Article marketing is the most effective form of marketing in my mind and it is my personal favorite.
Method #2 - Social Bookmarking Social bookmarking is one of the easiest ways to get exposure and traffic to your site.
The downside however, is that it is often short term, and it does not have the legs of methods like article marketing.
Social bookmarking involves posting a link and description to your site on pages like Digg, Reddit, and StumbleUpon.
These directory style sites post up lists of "bookmarks" much like you would have in your firefox bookmarks menu.
Other people who visit the site can see what you have bookmarked, and choose whether or not to visit the site.
The real power in social bookmarking is that it can get your site indexed quickly, it can get you a backlink, and if you get several recommendations and get on the "hot list", it can actually provide a decent amount of targeted traffic.
Method #3 - Directory Submissions Many times, when you purchase search engine optimization (SEO) from an SEO company, this is one of the main methods they will use.
While it is not as effective as it once was, it can still provide a number of quality backlinks to your site and help you rank well in Google.
Some of the most popular directories are actually free to submit to, but can take a long period of time to get listed.
By a long time, I mean months to even years sometimes.
Luckily, there are also some paid inclusion directories that will list you quickly for a price.
Just make sure to steer clear of any frowned upon directories (there are plenty of sites on the internet that list which ones to use).
By using these 3 methods gradually over time, you can get your site to move up in the ranking on Google.
By getting your site to one of the top 5 positions in the search listings, you will see a serious increase in traffic and it will be consistent, targeted, and ready to subscribe to your mailing list or buy your product.
Stick to these 3 methods and I guarantee you will see great results!
