The North American International Auto Show, held each January in Detroit, Michigan, is a show that you can always count on for exciting new car and truck introductions.
This is the first year I've attended the show and I'm looking forward to seeing the new vehicles first-hand. Bookmark this page and check back often starting January 9, 2005, for news about all the new trucks and SUVs.
Truck of the Year:Ford Escape Hybrid
The top three vehicles were SUVs and included the Land Rover LR3 and the Ford Freestyle (more of a crossover vehicle).
Car of the Year:Chrysler 300
The other two finalists were the Ford Mustang and the Chevrolet Corvette.
The winners are chosen by forty-eight automotive journalists who represent all types of media. Each journalist is given twenty-five points to award to a selected list of vehicles--all cars and trucks that have changed significantly from the previous model.
Journalists award points to the cars and trucks, with a maximum of ten points going to any one vehicle. The results are tabulated and the top three are announced--in no particular order. The winners of each category are then announced.
This is definitely hard work! It's a lot of fun and I've seen more new vehicles than I can count, but each day brings 12+ hours of looking at cars and listening to promos--leaving little time to get the information online.
I have over 500 digital photos to sort through when I get home, and most of those will make it into one photo gallery or another.
There's so much to talk about that it will take me awhile to get it on the Web site, but that means I'll have non-stop articles and photos to show you for some time. The Harley-Davidson F-150, the Honda Ridgeline truck, loads of new production and concept SUVs, and some cars I couldn't pass up. Keep an eye on About Trucks/SUVs for ongoing details about all the new introductions.
Now I need some rest so that I can get back to the show tomorrow.
