About Hydro Massage Tables

    Function

    • Hydromassage tables utilize water jets built into the inside of the massage table. These jets work in a rotating and pulsing motion to massage muscles and help with overall relaxation.

    Types

    • There are both home versions and commercial versions of the hydromassage table available to consumers. The personal style table usually comes with fewer of the available options than the commercial one does. For example, home versions may have only one speed for the jets to massage at and less power available in the water jet motor.

    Features

    • Hydromassage tables include water jets that massage the entire body without getting a person wet. Hydromassage tables also offer heat to help muscles relax. Some more expensive tables offer different programs of massages as well as adjustments for temperature, speed and intensity. They also allow you to set what areas of the body the jets should focus on.

    Size

    • Smaller tables will hold about 22 gallons of water and be about 6 feet long and 2 feet wide and high. Larger tables can hold up to 25 gallons of water, weigh over 450 lbs when full, and be almost 8 feet long, 3 1/2 feet wide and more than 2 feet high.

    Effects

    • Using the hydromassage table can result in many of the same benefits as receiving a hands-on massage, including relaxation, reduction of stress, relief from pain, lowered blood pressure and improvement in skin tone. Some people who have suffered with arthritic and rheumatic pain have experienced marked relief from discomfort by using a hydromassage table regularly, though these results have not been conclusively proven by any scientific studies.

    Theories/Speculation

    • There has not been enough scientific evidence to prove the long-term benefits of using hydromassage therapy. Many health companies still consider it an experimental therapy and are hesitant to prescribe it as a therapy option on a regular basis.
