Designing with Linens
Dollhouses contain an enormous potential for miniaturists and hobbyists alike. For instance the amount of detail that is available to you is mesmerizing. Fabrics and cloth is one awesome example as you can coordinate colors and have your favorites stand out. If you are looking for an example, or maybe a good starting point then I would recommend the bedroom. Just think of all the fabrics that you use in your own bedroom - Sheets, curtains, blankets, etc. Next is the dinning room where you can have your own napkins, dinning room table covers, seat covers, etc. After the dining room you go to the bathroom and do some his and her towels, or even a floor mat. There is just an unending amount of personal style that you can put into your dollhouse.
Making your Miniature House Better: Floor Trim
As you are building and tweaking your dollhouse you will discover some great time saving secrets. The last dollhouse that I was making I discovered a great addition that really made my interior stand out. I simply created a floor board to use for the trim around the floor of the dollhouse. You can buy many types of dollhouse trim through stores but what I found to be the cheapest and easiest is purchasing a long thin flat piece of balsa wood. I applied this balsa wood to the floor of each of my walls to form a great outline along the bottom. My biggest discovery is when the trim hid most of the fine mistakes between the floor and the wall. The wallpaper walls were also trimmed and I was really happy to see that it prevented fraying due to covering the edges. It was a little addition that was fun to install and really added to the look of my dollhouse.
Rearranging Furniture? Try Some New Strategies
Have you ever found yourself confused as to the correct layout of your dollhouse furniture? A placement strategy is simply a way of trying things differently to give you the arrangement you want. Two simple layout strategies is first the triangle, and second is the square. In order to use the triangle design you will need three major pieces of furniture for the room, imagine that they form a triangle and place them accordingly. The next example is that of the square, take four pieces of furniture and arrange them so that they make a square in the room. If you have an extra small piece of furniture you can have a five piece square by placing it in the middle. This is only the tip of the iceberg as you can allow your designs to envelop any arrangement of shapes.
Dollhouse Exterior Design
The outside of the dollhouse has as much do to with the appeal, if not more, than the inside design. You will want to focus on the most eye attracting points first: The paint and the shingles. To have a quality paint job on your house apply at least three coats of recommended paint. The shingles should be died and applied carefully using a ruler to assure that the lines are straight. There are many other ways to enjoy an attractive exterior; most of them are through accessories like dog houses, or gazebos. You can even have some small flower pots to place in the window seals. And let us not forget the biggest advantage to designing the outside: the lights. Lights on exterior are commonly found on the porch, but you can place them pretty much wherever you would like to.
