- 1). Place some furniture on the middle of the carpet to hold it down. Straighten the carpet out as much as you can. Get a second person to put a table or some other heavy furniture in the middle while you hold the carpet extended. Instruct your helper to extend the carpet as much as possible between the legs of the table so the table holds a stretched piece of carpet under it.
- 2). Soak a towel with hot steaming water. Place it on the floor underneath the least straightened area of the carpet. Lay the carpet back over the towel.
- 3). Place some dry towels over the area of the carpet that has the wet towel underneath it. Place a heavy object on top of the dry towels to hold them down.
- 4). Remove the towels and the heavy object from the carpet after about two or three hours. Repeat the process wherever the carpet isn't flat against the floor.
