- 1). Bring some extra money for the games and rides for the kids. While the event is hardly a carnival, there will be a few tents for games, a large slide and one or two other rides for toddlers. These can be fun for families with smaller children and helps to make the event about more than just the outstanding food.
- 2). Visit the Hoboken Italian Festival website to find out which musical groups will perform on each night. Chances are that there is at least one band that you want to make sure you don't miss during the festival. The schedule will let you know when that band is playing, as well as offer links to the home pages of any new bands performing. This allows visitors to introduce themselves to these bands before the festival and determine whether or not they want to see the band play live.
- 3). Take part in one of the eating contests. The two most famous are the pizza eating contest and cannoli eating contest. Don't worry; they're held on separate nights.
- 4). Go to the festival on Saturday night for a free fireworks show. There is just something special about watching a fireworks display with the New York City skyline serving as a backdrop. The fireworks begin at about 9:00 p.m. on Saturday.
- 5). Watch the procession of the Madonna Dei Martiri on Saturday. This is nothing more than a small parade where the statue is carried throughout town and even on a boat out on the Hudson River. It is a Hoboken tradition, though, that has to be experienced to be appreciated.
- 6). Prepare to eat Italian food and lots of it during the festival. Whether it's St. Ann's or this festival, it is the food that you'll remember for months after. Fresh slices of pizza, Italian sausage and salads and sandwiches full of fresh mozzarella are just a few of the reasons to visit the festival every night.
