After all one supplement, you would have thought, should be the same as another because after all they are all made from fish.

- DHA Levels - There are two types of essential omega3 fats to be found in oily fish and they are DHA and EPA.
When choosing a supplement you want one that is higher in DHA and the reason for this is because research is showing that it is this fat that has the major anti inflammatory properties that does your body so much good.
What you will find with most supplements though is that they are higher in the other fat, and while still good for you, ideally you want it the other way around. - Freshness - Quite often you will find that the capsules are made from fish that has been frozen at sea.
This is done to enable the fishermen to stay out longer so they have more volume to sell when they return to shore.
The problem is however this makes the fish go rancid, and when you take a tablet made from this kind of fish you will experience fishy burps which are disgusting.
Ideally you want a supplement made from produce that is caught and processed within a short time scale - Purity - Purity of the fish used in a supplement is probably the biggest factor to look for.
The reason for this is that oily fish are renowned for containing things like mercury and having high levels of PCB's in them: and whatever is in the fish will go into the consumer of it, unless it is purified.
Now some companies will say their fish is pharmaceutical grade, but this is a marketing term and does not mean anything; you need to have a supplement that has gone through a purification process called molecular distillation.
This is not a compulsory process, so you do need to check that it has been carried out.
