Tummy Tuck Surgery - Tips For Recovery

Recovery time will vary depending on the type of tummy tuck surgery as well as your physical preoperative condition.
Plan to take at least one week off from work with the potential to need an extra week depending on progress.
If you aren't feeling up to it, take off the extra time and use the time to allow your body to heal properly.
Limit Movement After the tummy tuck surgery, you may need to stay in the hospital overnight.
Medication should take care of some of the pain and discomfort for the next couple of days.
During those days, consider resting in bed and limiting the amount of movement.
Get some rest, read, and watch a few movies.
Because the abdomen controls much of your core center of movement, if you do need to get around, move gently and take your time.
When you doctor does release you from resting, start with walking to get back into the routine of exercise.
Walking increases the blood flow and can be beneficial to your body as you continue to get better.
As you feel better and more comfortable, you can slowly work yourself back into your previous workout routine.
Follow Up Appointment The sutures will probably be removed in less than a week at a follow up appointment.
Be sure to let the doctor know about any concerns or issues that you are having.
Remember that it will talk time to see results and don't be discouraged.
There will be swelling and possibly bruising, masking the true results of the procedure.
Check with your doctor about when it is okay to take a bath, remove the bandages and return to your normal activities.
Clothing Choices You want to toss the whole wardrobe and get into some new clothes right away.
But wait! There are several stages of clothing choices you are going to need as your body continues to heal.
Immediately following the tummy tuck surgery, you want to wear comfortable clothing that does not press on the sutures.
This can cause you unnecessary pain and even create a problem with the closing of the wound.
Many surgeons recommend that their patients wear some type of a compression garment.
This is worn to help support the body as well as speed up the amount of time it takes for the wound to heal.
Immediately following the procedure, there may be some swelling, so wear loose clothing that will fit over top of the compression garment and will not affect the wound in any way.
