How to Install a Kohler Tub

    • 1). Prepare adequate subflooring. Consult your particular tub model's installation manual to determine the weight of the tub and its frame; this is the weight the the floor will have to support. Consult the manual for the dimensions of the tub as well -- that is, its length and width. You will also need to know if the tub requires a sunken, elevated or level support floor. The subfloor will be a combination of 2 by 4 wood and plywood.

    • 2). Construct a framework of 2 by 4 wood to support the tub. Consult your tub model's installation manual for the appropriate frame measurements.

    • 3). Spread a layer of mortar on the subfloor within the boundaries of the framework. This will seal the base of the tub in place. Consult your installation manual for the specific thickness you'll need.

    • 4). Insert the tub into the framework. This will require two people. Do not carry the tub by the rim. You must carry it by the lower body.

    • 5). Lay a level across the rim of the tub to determine if the tub is sitting even with the floor.

    • 6). Seal the edges of the tub to the framework and walls. Use a caulking gun to apply a bead of caulk to the edges of the tub. Press and smooth the caulking into place using your finger or a caulk finishing tool.

    • 7). Connect the plumbing. This will consist of a shower head and faucet for most tubs. Consult the installation manual for your particular model to determine which parts your tub requires.

    • 8). Apply a layer of caulk around the plumbing fixtures. This will keep any water from leaking through the tub walls at the seams.
