Rodents, such as rats and mice, are unwanted guests in any household because of the danger they bring. These pests can inflict costly structural damage to any building with their gnawing and burrowing. In addition, because they are filthy creatures, they can spread diseases and viruses which can be life-threatening. For this reason, if you home is infested with these unwanted critters, you must immediately take action. There are safe and easy methods to catch and remove mice from your home.

Snap/Clap Mousetraps

These types of mousetraps are widely used in many households, next to cats and other predatory animals. It is also starting to lean towards becoming a more humane method of trapping and getting rid of these creatures. If you do choose these traps, you must consider a few important things:

  Location: the most important factor you need to consider when trapping mice is to look for the best location. If you fail to put the trap in the right place, you will lose the opportunity to catch these nasty critters. So, you must stalk your prey like a hunter. This means you should listen for skittering noises or scratching noises that are associated with rats and mice. You must also watch where the critter runs to hide. You might discover a myriad of holes, cracks, and gaps in your wall foundation, cabinet, or boards. Contrary to popular belief, these creepy critters do not simply vanish into thin air.

  Bait: You must also use the right bait to attract a mouse; however, a small slice of cheese isn't going to work. If you want to use cheese as bait, it is advisable to use soft cheese that stick to the trap. In doing so, the mice will have a hard time lifting it right off the pad. You can also use peanut butter since it is very sticky and has a strong scent which can easily attract these pests.
  

Glue Traps

This is another excellent method of trapping a mouse and a more humane method than pest control. You can purchase glue traps from your local hardware store. Once you have glue traps, here's what you need to do:

• Place the traps in the right location. You can place them along the walls so that you or any of your family members won't accidentally trip it. As an additional advice, you can place the traps together, or you can purchase the rat-size traps.


• Place bait. You can use peanut butter as bait since it is more effective.


• Listen for any sounds of a struggling mouse trying to get out of the trap. Rats and mice usually make loud noises when they are trying to escape a trap.


• Use gardening gloves to protect your hands and carry the trap outside and away from your home.


• You can then apply two drops of oil to the trap. This will free the mouse and allow it to get away from your home. The oil will help the mouse disengage itself from the glue.
