- The best way to avoid trapped gas is by avoiding the foods that cause gas to begin with. Common gas-promoting foods include beans, broccoli, cauliflower, bananas, pretzels, cabbage, onions and radishes. Chewing gum and sucking on hard candy should be avoided as well because both actions will cause you to swallow too much air.
- If you are experiencing discomfort caused by trapped gas, try mixing a pinch of banking soda in a cup of warm water. Add a teaspoon of lemon juice and drink the water. This remedy is believed to calm the stomach and intestines and relieve the pressure and bloating caused by trapped gas.
- Drink a cup of warm chamomile tea after every meal. Chamomile tea is not only great for relaxation but is believed to help improve the overall function of the digestive system as well. Drinking chamomile tea will help to expel any gas that is trapped in the digestive tract.
- Ginger is another common home remedy for trapped gas. Start by grating 1 tsp. of fresh ginger root and mixing it with 1 tsp. of lime juice. Dilute the mixture by mixing it into 6 ounces of water and sweeten it with honey to taste. Ginger root contains a number of digestive enzymes that will not only stimulate the production of saliva but will aid in peristalsis (the movement of your intestines) as well. If your intestines are moving properly the gas in your body won't be trapped.
