Introduction and Supplies

I created this bracelet to go with my Heart Throb necklace. It includes a combination of gemstone beads, carnelian and poppy jasper, along with sterling silver wire flower components. You just need to know some basic beading techniques as well as a little wire wrapping to create this jewelry piece.

To make the Wire Flower and Gemstone Bead Bracelet, you will need the following tools, supplies, and materials:

3 - 6mm Carnelian beads
3 - 6mm Poppy jasper beads
1 Sterling silver spring ring clasp
About 3 1/2 feet of 20-gauge Sterling silver round wire
Wire cutters
Chain-nosed pliers
Round-nosed pliers
Nylon-nosed pliers
Jeweler's file

First Wire Flower Petal Loop

1. Start by making the wire flower components. You will need seven of these. Take a little wire (at least 4 inches long), file the end with a jeweler's file, and use round-nose pliers to make a curl on one end of the wire. Note: It is much easier to work with longer wire than shorter wire. I usually find anywhere from 6 to 8 inches is a comfortable length for me.

Second Wire Flower Petal Loop

2. To form the second petal of the wire flower, use round-nose pliers and grasp the straight wire right next to the first wire curl.
3. Use your fingers to wrap the wire around the nose of the pliers.

4. Remove the pliers from the wire.

Third Wire Flower Petal Loop

5. Again, grasp the straight piece of wire with the nose of the round-nose pliers.
6. Use your fingers to wrap the wire around the nose of the pliers.

7. Remove the pliers from the wire.

Fourth Wire Flower Petal Loop

8. Finally, again grasp the straight wire with round-nose pliers. This part can be a little tricky because you are so close to the other three wire flower petals. Use your fingers to wrap the wire around the nose of the pliers, and if necessary, adjust the pliers a little so that you can get all around the nose.

Finished Wire Flower Component

9. Use wire cutters to cut the flower from rest of the wire.

10. File the last end of the wire (on the fourth petal).

11. Gently flatten the wire flower a little between the jaws of the nylon-nosed pliers.

12. Repeat steps 1 through 11 in order to have a total of 7 wire flower components. Once you have made all 7 wire flower components, set them aside for assembly later on.

Starting Wire Wrapped Loop

13. Now you are ready to make the wire and bead components of the bracelet. Start with a little wire in order to begin your wrapped loop. Use chain-nose pliers, grasp about 2 inches down on the wire, and bend the wire into a 90 degree angle.

14. Then grasp the angled part of the wire with round-nose pliers, and use your fingers to wrap the wire around the nose of the pliers to form a loop.

Finished Wire Wrapped Loop

15. Keep the round-nose pliers in the wire loop, put your pointer finger on the round part that is around the nose of the pliers, and pick up the chain-nose pliers with your other hand.
16. Grasp the end of the wire with the chain-nose pliers and wrap it around the straight part of the wire.

Forming Second Wire Wrapped Loop

17. Slip on one of the beads onto the wire (either one of the carnelian beads or one of the poppy jasper beads).

18. Use chain-nose pliers and about 1/4 of an inch past the bead, bend the wire into a 90 degree angle.

19. Grasp the angled wire section with round-nose pliers.

20. Using your fingers, wrap the wire around the nose of the pliers to start forming the second wrapped loop.

Connecting Wire Flower and Bead Components

21. Still holding the round-nose pliers in the wire loop, use chain-nose pliers to wrap the wire around itself.
22. Repeat 13 through 21 for the other 5 gemstone beads.

Attach Sterling Silver Spring Ring Clasp

23. Now you are reading to take the wire flower components and the gemstone and wire sections and assemble them. Take a wire flower and slip it through one of the wrapped loops on one of the gemstone sections.

24. Continue to alternate between wire flowers and gemstone bead sections until you end up with the last wire flower component.

25. Take the sterling silver spring ring clasp and slip it onto the last wire flower component.
26. Go back and check each flower to make sure they are securely connected. You may need to use chain-nosed pliers to help close up any gaps.

This really turns into a kind of flower wire and gemstone bead chain by the time you are finished. The completed bracelet is about 7 1/2 inches in length. To shorter or lengthen the bracelet, you can use fewer or more components.
