People who become diagnosed with this particular condition may not know everything there is to know about it. But what they might also not know and that they do not understand,  is that celiac disease is a disease which affects your digestive system. To be more specific, it is a condition that is enhanced by eating the protein gluten. Celiac disease in truth, should be viewed with caution and skepticism for no  treatment  or cure exists. The disease can also be known as celiac sprue or in other words, gluten-sensitive disease of the intestine. Your body rejects gluten in many ways.

The small intestine is unable to absorb nutrients. This, of course, will become a long-term problem, because the nutrients are not absorbed, which can and will lead to other diseases. The threat of a nutritional deficiency is higher in children who have contracted the disease.

This disease can and often will be confused with some other allergic reactions with signs and symptoms aren't so visible and noticeable. It's a fairly common  occurrence  that people with the disease do suffer from intermittent diarrhea, some bloating, stomach and mouth ulcers, skin rash, anemia, indigestion, joint and abdominal pain as well. Unfortunately there are times that people do not know experience any type of digestive problems whatsoever. However, people who have celiac disease can experience results in weight loss, diarrhea, abdominal pain, bad-smelling stools, and osteoporosis, just to name a few.

The disease can affect anyone at almost any age. Children can and do develop this disease as well as adults. It is an autoimmune disease that attacks the digestive system. Celiac disease is triggered by ingesting any foods that contain gluten. Some examples would be: cereals, breads, pasta, cookies, and pizza crust, but there are many more. All food that is made with wheat or barley contains a good amount of gluten. When the food with the gluten is ingested, the reaction occurs in the small intestine, thus causing damage to the lining.

A gluten-free diet for people with celiac disease should include eating the correct amount of meat, fresh fish and poultry, dairy products, and fruits and vegetables, which are always extremely healthy of course. Your options on a gluten-free diet are not as limited as you might think they are. Rice and potatoes are also excellent replacement for wheat products. Getting the facts about celiac disease should be approached as something that is very important for your health, but should be seen as an opportunity to learn about the disease and finding the best way to deal with the problem and how to live with it.

The treatment and cure of celiac disease is not yet known. However, there are ways to fight and deal with this disease. And the first and most important line of defense against celiac disease is a gluten-free diet. You absolutely must avoid any foods that contain gluten and that will help prevent inflammation in the small intestine. You can also taking supplements to help any malnutrition caused by the disease.
