Getting There

• International flights arrive at Kiev Borispol. Non-stop flights arrive daily from London, Paris, Vienna, New York (JFK) and Toronto, among other cities. Overnight trains arrive in Kiev from Berlin, Budapest, Krakow, Prague and other European cities. Direct bus services are available from Germany, France, France and the United Kingdom. Kiev is reached by car via the E-40.
  
  

Getting Around

• Kiev's metro provides a convenient way to travel from one side of the city to another. The metro is open daily from 5:30 a.m. to midnight. A ride on the metro costs 50 kopecks. Tokens can be purchased from automatic machines or from a cashier inside the station.
  
  

Practical Information

• Becoming familiar with the Cyrillic alphabet will greatly aid your travels around Kiev. Learning a few key phrases in Russian or Ukrainian will also prove to be helpful. Purchase a small Russian or Ukrainian language dictionary prior to your travels.
  
  

Things to See

• Among the sites to visit include Kievo-Pechersky Lavra (or the Caves Monastery), reachable via the metro (Arsenalna stop) and #38 trolley or #20 bus. St. Sophia's Cathedral (Sofiyska Square) is the city's oldest standing church. St. Mikhayil's Monstery of the Golden Domes is located near to St. Sophia. St. Andrei's Church (Andriyivsky Uziz 23), was completed in 1762.
  
  

Things to Do

• If you have the chance, catch a performance at the National Opera and Ballet. There is something performed on stage nearly every night. Tickets are quite reasonable, with prices ranging from between $5 and $25 per performance.
