Time to Seriously Think About a Metro System in Guatemala

Have we ever though of Guatemala as a city with a Metro? Usually, no.
Recent tendencies have pointed out that feasibility and necessity are making this change, and people are starting to talk about Guatemala's odds.
The First underground metropolitan transport system was born in London, 1863.
It was steam powered until 1890, when it upgraded to electric power.
Even before electric power, other great cities of the world had already started to benchmark the Idea, New York (1885), Paris (1900).
Buenos Aires, Argentina, constructed a Metro System in 1903 even before the city population reached a million! Today, hundreds of cities throughout the the 5 continents have working Metro Systems, some combine subterranean, ground level and above level rails.
Most of these cities started Metro developments before the where the size Guatemala City is now, most metro developments took a decade or more for the Idea to become a reality.
Could Guatemala City have a Metro that: 1.
Could move above or below ground level, leaving the ground level for cars.
2.
Could move a million commuters a day.
3.
Be hydroelectrically powered.
4.
Would save billions of dollars in oil importation.
5.
That would reduce millions of commuting hours through dense Guatemalan traffic.
6.
Could revive deteriorated zones in the downtown area and surrounding areas and through this, increase the municipalities tributary income? The answer is: YES, if we believe in this and we start to consider the idea in a serious manner and if we could get the city authorities, civil groups and private sector involved in this, there is a great possibility that 10 years from now, we could add Guatemala, to that elite list of cities that have a green mass transport system!.
