- One use for the upside-down ketchup bottle is keeping it for the same purpose. Buying ketchup in bulk means the bottle can be refilled as needed. Some of these bottles have wide mouths with lids that can be screwed or unscrewed making refills a cinch. Do this task with a wide-spout funnel.
- Another way to keep that upside-down ketchup bottle out of the recycling depot or landfill is keeping it in the kitchen to pour pancake batter. Not only will it make dispensing the batter so easy that children can do it, but it also allows you to store the batter in the refrigerator for a day or two. The batter might rise a little when stored, so be sure not to fill it to the top.
- Soak the label of the bottle and let the bottle dry. Place a few cat treats or a little catnip in the bottle and seal it with the cap. Decorate it, if you like, but make sure to not use items that will cause the animal to choke or suffer an upset stomach.
- This craft not only promotes environmental stewardship but financial savvy. Soak the bottle and remove its label. Dry the bottle. Use an exacto knife or sharp scissors to cut a slot for change on one of the bottle's sides. Pierce a small hole in the bottle's flat top to attach a tail. Paint the bottle and cap pink. With the cap on the bottle and paint dry, coil a pipe cleaner around your finger or a pencil. Form a hook on one end of the pipe cleaner and insert it into the tail hole. Set the bottle on the side that does not have the slot. Make a pair of foam ears and glue them to each side of the bottle at the point where the bottle begins to narrow close to the change slot. With permanent marker, draw eyes to the bottle cap and the pig's nostrils on the cap. Fill the piggy bank with change and empty it by unscrewing the pig's nose.
- Upside-down ketchup bottles are a great way to store paint, especially when mixing them for small children to use for crafts. Mix a load of each color and store them in the bottles. Dispense the paint into small paper or plastic cups.
- These bottles also can be a terrific option for storing homemade salad dressing. If you have a recipe for a thick salad dressing, make and pour it into a clean, dry bottle. Label the bottle and store the dressing in the refrigerator. Thin salad dressing will run out of the bottle too quickly. But the bottle also could be used for dispensing homemade mustards and barbecue sauces as well.
