• Sometimes adults will develop thrush after a surgery, such as a tonsillectomy. The condition can seem scary to someone who is not familiar with it, but thrush is a relatively harmless condition that is simple to treat and will most likely go away on its own. Most adults are familiar with oral thrush in babies and infants, but are not necessarily familiar with adult oral thrush or even the possibility of it occurring.
  
  

White or Yellow Spots

• Look for white or pale yellow spots on the inner surfaces of the mouth, throat, and tongue. Thrush may also appear on the lips and may resemble cottage cheese. Some people describe thrush as looking like milk curds. Many people have the instinct to scrape the spots off the mouth, but this can be somewhat difficult, and may result in open sores.
  
  

Burning Sensations

• Some people describe thrush as creating a burning sensation on the inside of the mouth. Thrush is a fungal yeast infection of the mouth and can be uncomfortable. Other physical symptoms include severe itching, burning, and soreness.
  
  

Cracking

• Cracking may occur at the corners of the mouth with oral thrush, and some individuals complain of losing their sense of taste temporarily. It is also common for people to describe having a "cottony" feeling in the mouth. The lesions may spread down towards the esophagus, in which case, difficulty with swallowing may occur. People will often feel like food is stuck in their throats.
