- According to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, the most common side effects of Lupride Depot affect at least 5 percent of users and as many as 55 percent.
- Common side effects of Lupride Depot include decreased blood flow to the heart, high blood pressure, swelling, loss of appetite, constipation, nausea, vomiting, decreased testicular size, breast swelling in men, breast tenderness in women, hot flashes, anemia, muscle or bone pain, dizziness, headaches, insomnia, sinus congestions, frequent urination, bloody urine and weakness.
- Men who take Lupride Depot occasionally report impotence, testicular pain, swelling or pain of the penis and the appearance of penile blisters related to use of the drug. Some women experience irregular menstruation, the complete absence of menstruation and increased menstrual cramping.
- Lupride depot may contribute to the onset of osteoporosis. It is also possible to develop a life-threatening condition known as pituitary apoplexy while taking Lupride, causing a danger for permanent blindness, according to the Medical Center at UCLA.
- Lupride depot has toxic affects upon fetal development, making it unsafe for use in pregnant women. Patients with a history of menstrual bleeding, osteoporosis, lesions on the spine or difficulty urinating should not take Lupride.
