Definition:
Picus is also called Picumnus, he was credited with discovering the use of manure in agriculture. He is called son of Stercutus or Sterquilinus (dung) in consequence. He is the father of Faunus, who was equated with the Greek god Pan. Another legend claims Picus was a warlike hero, the earliest king of Latium, a wealthy man whom Circe changed into a woodpecker.
