How to Qualify for Wellcare If on Medicare

    • 1). Make sure that you are enrolled in both Medicare Parts A and B. Medicare Part A covers in-patient hospital care (hospital stays, hospice and home health care). Medicare Part B covers doctor's cost and outpatient care. This also means that you must be at least 65 years old.

    • 2). Check to see if you live in a Wellcare coverage area. Wellcare only operates in certain states, including Georgia, Florida, Connecticut, Hawaii, Illinois, Indiana, Missouri, New Jersey, New York, Ohio and Texas. The best way to find information is to visit Wellcare.com (see Resources). There you will find the numbers for every state that is covered.

    • 3). Understand that you cannot apply for coverage with Wellcare if you have end-stage renal disease (ESRB).
